A native of
Ohio, Richard
Nearing was
|
|
surrounded by
artists. His
Grandmother was
an |
|
oil artist.
His Mother was
an interior
designer. |
|
She also was an
artist painted
in the mediums
|
|
of watercolor
and gouache.
His Father was
an |
|
engineer and
draftsman.
Richard studied
art |
in high school,
at Miami
University in
Ohio, in the
Army Air Corps
and Signal
Corps, and at
Mesa Community
College in
Arizona.
He still takes
art classes to
constantly
improve his
drawing skills.
His favorite
subjects are
historical
buildings with
intentions of
preserving them
on paper, in the
event they would
be destroyed.
So far, he has
published
six books on
Arizona's
historical
buildings,
homes, military
history, wagons
and stagecoaches
and living in
the early
Arizona years. |

Richard
specializes in
pen and ink,
pencil and
Prismacolor
(colored)
pencil. He
has been
commissioned by
corporations and
private
individuals. His
work is known
throughout the
U.S. and
internationally.
Art was
secondary for
many years of
his life, but
after spending
"lots" of years
in industrial
management and
sales positions,
Richard decided
to change
(re-career) and
pursue a
vocation that he
loves. He
has owned a
sizeable art
gallery, custom
framing shops
and has taught
drawing and
pen/ink classes.
Richard is now a
full time artist
and author.
Richard is a
Board member of
the Chandler
Arts & Crafts
League, and is a
past member of
the Tempe
Historical
Museum Advisory
Board.
He is listed in
WHO'S WHO IN THE
WEST. |
